Hey Big Brudder

So, for all of you NEW readers, meet Dandy's little brother, Mistake! If it's not obvious by the strip itself, he's fairly smart.

Holiday Machinations

Longtime readers of the original strip will likely remember all of Dandy's failed attempts at catching Santa. But for new readers, I wanted to give enough exposition to understand what was happening and that it was a regular thing.

With THIS gag, I wanted to set up both Dandy's reasoning for all of it, AND reveal the reason he never succeeds.

Also, eagle eyed long time readers will see stockings for both Mae and Mistake. Both characters moved out at the end of the last series. Mae and George had separated and Mistake moved back in with his owner, Herb. The stockings are there because in the case of Mae, like some families that have split up, they still will celebrate certain holidays together for the kids. And Mistake is ALWAYS family and will be coming over as frequently as he used to now that Herb has moved back into town. (Which means he will be popping up eventually soon.)

Zen Pranking

I have the strange feeling that I've done this gag before. Part of the drama of having done a comic strip for 10 years plus. You sometimes rip off yourself unintentionally. I hope I DIDN'T today, but I've got a funny feeling.

4th Wall Solvency

Fear not, dear readers. I love breaking the 4th wall WAY too much to go with Bernard here.

Nostalgia Redux

Welcome back to the ALL NEW "Dandy & Company"! And with this triumphant return, I decided to hug the nostalgia fairy so tight that she might just die! All kidding aside, I thought that it would be fun to reflect on the concepts of nostalgia by showcasing the art styles of the cartoonists that have most inspired me.

For anyone that might not know, the first panel is drawn in the style of Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes.

The second, of course, is in the style of Jim Davis, creator of Garfield.

The third panel, a recreation of the style of Charles Schulz of Peanuts fame.

The fourth panel is a homage to the work of Berkeley Breathed, creator of Bloom County/Outland/Opus.

The last homage panel is my best attempt at the lush, beautiful brush work of Pogo's Walt Kelly.

Each comment in each frame makes reference to a major theme present throughout each strip and was a LOT of fun to try and emulate.

See you next Wednesday, same Dog time, same dog channel!

Wither and Die

And here we are, the final strip of the classic re-runs. As of tomorrow, D&C RETURNS as an all NEW, weekly full page comic strip! Be sure to be here for all the fun every Wednesday!

With this last re-run strip, I establish that Mistake has moved out of the house and back in with his owner, the often unseen Herb. Sorry I didn't have time to fit you in here, Herb! I'll have to re-introduce you somewhere else. lol

Calpurnia

While not her first appearance, this shows just where recurring villain Calpurnia is at in the story. She once was responsible for a radically extreme version of Pumpkin's Animal's Rights Group, but only for Cats.

This led her to a failed attempt to take over the country using robot cats and mind control, but was thwarted by Dandy and her ex-lover and Dandy's now-deceased older brother, Snuffles.

These days, her villainy is a bit more subdued, but her placement as Bernard's Grandmothers "pet" bodes ill for the future, to be sure.
