Nostalgia Redux

Welcome back to the ALL NEW "Dandy & Company"! And with this triumphant return, I decided to hug the nostalgia fairy so tight that she might just die! All kidding aside, I thought that it would be fun to reflect on the concepts of nostalgia by showcasing the art styles of the cartoonists that have most inspired me.

For anyone that might not know, the first panel is drawn in the style of Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes.

The second, of course, is in the style of Jim Davis, creator of Garfield.

The third panel, a recreation of the style of Charles Schulz of Peanuts fame.

The fourth panel is a homage to the work of Berkeley Breathed, creator of Bloom County/Outland/Opus.

The last homage panel is my best attempt at the lush, beautiful brush work of Pogo's Walt Kelly.

Each comment in each frame makes reference to a major theme present throughout each strip and was a LOT of fun to try and emulate.

See you next Wednesday, same Dog time, same dog channel!

  1. Glad to see the gang back.

And this is one of the best comebacks I've ever seen in any comic strip. :D

Keep up the great work, Derrick. :)
